Things to Watch Out for When Using Rubber Tiles for Your Commercial Floors

Rubber floor tiles have quite a few advantages when used as commercial flooring. However, this doesn’t mean that they don’t have any drawbacks. If you are planning to use rubber floor tiles in your property, here are some things that you should be aware about.

One thing you should know about when you decide to go for rubber floor tiles is their price. In general, plain and ordinary rubber floor tiles are cheaper than other flooring materials. If you choose rubber floor tiles of higher quality and with upgraded aesthetics, then you should expect to pay more. Sometimes, the price of such rubber floor tiles is comparable to some natural stone and other high-end flooring materials.

Some rubber floor tiles are plain and without textures. More often than not, plain surfaces become rather smooth over the years. This can lead to the floor being slippery especially when they’re wet. That said, it is best to invest in high-quality non-slip rubber floor tiles right from the start. Like other high-end commercial flooring materials, you’ll see that the added expense is worth it.

High quality rubber floor tiles used as commercial flooring is generally resistant to staining. However, there are still quite a few products that can discolour the rubber’s surface. These products include harsh and abrasive cleaning liquids and detergents like bleach. Truth be told, most (if not all) other types of flooring materials are susceptible to damage when matched against such chemicals, so rubber floor tiles being stained by such substances isn’t really that much of an issue. Still, this is something worth knowing if you choose to use rubber floor tiles in your property.

Rubber floor tiles are installed alongside each other. This type of installation will leave small spaces and crevices right where the tiles are joined together. Although rubber itself is water-resistant, moisture can still seep through these openings. When it does, the moisture can negatively impact the adhesive holding the rubber floor tile onto the subfloor. That said, rubber floor tiles aren’t generally recommended for use in very wet areas like the bathroom.

Despite these drawbacks of rubber floor tiles, there are more advantages than disadvantages to using this particular flooring material. In fact, many would say that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks, and thus choose to use them as commercial flooring for their businesses.
